In-Office Procedures

What In-Office Procedures are Available?

The highly qualified physicians at Women’s Health Specialists of Frederick offer the following procedures in the office:

  • Colposcopy: A colposcopy is a procedure to examine your cervix and remove abnormal tissues. It’s done using a large, light-containing microscope that’s placed outside your vagina and gives your doctor a magnified view of your cervix.
  • LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure): This procedure removes thin layers of tissue from your cervix using an instrument made from a thin loop of wire that carries a mild electric current.
  • Hysteroscopy: During the procedure, the doctors look inside your uterus using a thin, lighted tube that’s inserted through the vagina. Hysteroscopy can be diagnostic or operative.

What are the Advantages of Minimally Invasive Procedures?

A minimally invasive procedure is done through a few very small incisions. The instruments used are all contained in long narrow tubes that are easily inserted through tiny incisions.

Compared to traditional open surgery, minimally invasive surgery causes significantly less trauma. Some minimally invasive procedures are safe to perform in the office, while others are done in the hospital because general anesthesia is required.

No matter where your minimally invasive procedure is scheduled, it has several health benefits, such as:

  • Less postoperative pain
  • Minimal blood loss
  • Fewer complications
  • Quicker recovery
  • Minimal scarring
